Woman killed in accident along new highway in Mammee Bay

One woman is dead and at least 8 other persons injured, following a two-vehicle collision along the North South Highway, in Mammee Bay, St. Ann, this afternoon (May 12).
The identity of the 69 year old woman has not yet been released, as her relatives have not yet been notified.
Head of the Traffic Police Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen says the accident occurred about 2:30 pm, in the vicinity of the roundabout.
Reports are that a white Toyota motor car was being driven along the north south highway, from Claremont towards Mammee Bay.
The driver of the car was allegedly speeding, and lost control of the vehicle, which collided into the back of a Hiace mini bus.
The impact reportedly caused the bus to overturn. The accident did not impede traffic.
Police say the 4 people travelling in the motorcar received injuries and have been taken to hospital.
Meantime, 5 persons travelling on the bus, were also taken to hospital, where the female passenger, was pronounced dead.
Senior Superintendent Allen says the injuries of the eight persons are not considered life threatening.
