WICB President Dave Cameron wants the PCL to produce more quality players
by Dwight Fraser
The president of the West Indies Cricket Board Dave Cameron has called on WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) to fulfill their mandate of providing the region with quality players.
It is understood that several players expressed a lack of desire to play for the regional test team in light of the new and controversial memorandum of understanding Memorandum of Understanding M.O.U, signed between the WICB and West Indies players association (WIPA) last year.
Especially in light of what the current test salaries represent Cameron is expressing hope that more players can emerge from the PCL to fill the gaps left by elite players who refuse to suit up for the region.
Promising players such as Lendl Simmons is one of such players who refuse to play at the test level based on the current remuneration.
With the availability of several players uncertain for the near future either due to age or the threat of the Twenty/20 game, which has proven to be a more lucrative format, there are also concerns that several positions in the team lack adequate back-up.
