Wage Talks Postponed

One day before unions representing some public sector workers were expected to return to the Ministry of Finance to resume wage negotiations, word has come that the meetings have been called off.

Members of the Jamaica Teachers Association JTA and Police Federation were left disappointed after the meetings scheduled for this morning were pushed back for next week Monday.

President of the JTA,  Georgia Waugh Richards, says she was informed yesterday (Dec 5) that the ministry was doing further internal deliberations on the claim submitted, and would require additional time.

And Chairman of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson has also expressed his disappointment with the postponed meeting.

He says a reason for the postponement has not been communicated.

He adds that after submitting their package in April, the negotiations are still ongoing.

Sergeant Wilson says the members of the Police Federation’s Central Committee will meet today (Dec 6).
