The University of the West Indies has improved its position on the Times High Education Rankings for 2020.
Vice-Chancellor of the UWI, Professor Hilary Beckles made the announcement last week.
Professor Beckles says the UWI has retained its number one spot for the Caribbean region from its debut on the 2019 Ranking.
It has also moved up to the top two per cent of universities in the Latin American and Caribbean region from its previous top three per cent ranking last year.
The scores for its global rankings also improved moving from the top five per cent to the top four per cent of ranked universities.
Professor Beckles credited the improvement to the roll out of the UWI’s five-year strategic plan which was built upon three pillars, Access to tertiary education, Alignment with partners and stakeholders, and Agility in effort.
The Times Higher Education Ranking comprises over 200 registered universities in the Caribbean region, 2000 registered universities in Latin America and the Caribbean and over 28,000 registered universities globally.
