Trelawny’s economy to be affected by redundancy exercise at 2 Sugar Estates, says MP

by Myesha Broadie

There is concern that Trelawny’s economy will suffer greatly, following a major redundancy exercise at the Long Pond and Hampden Sugar Estates, which has left  2 hundred and 47 workers  out of jobs.

On Tuesday, the workers were issued with letters terminating their services.

Everglades Farms Limited has decided to discontinue the operations of the agricultural segments of the estates.

Member of Parliament for Northern Trelawny, Victor Wright, says this move will undoubtedly affect families.

One affected worker from Long Pond  agrees.

She says she is uncertain of how she will provide for her family .

Meantime, Mr. Wright told Irie fm News, that he was not aware of Everglades’ decision.

The MP says, he will be making the necessary consultations to see how best the affected workers, may be assisted.
