A taskforce will be established to address safety and security concerns of returning residents seeking to live, work and conduct business in Jamaica.

The announcement from Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Pearnel Charles Jr, followed a meeting with senior officials from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Associations for Returned Residents, the British Jamaica Association (BJA) and Members of the Ministry’s Diaspora Affairs Department.

Senator Charles says the task force’s main objective will be to develop strategies and solutions to address concerns of returning residents.

He notes that returning residents have a unique set of security risks.

Senator Charles says he wants to put a system in place where returning residents will be able to access background checks on persons they intend to do business with.
