The Acting Education Minister has dismissed a call from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, to end the practice of teachers going to the National College for Educational Leadership, NCEL, before they’re appointed principals.
JTA President, Owen Speid, says training at NCEL is now unnecessary.
But, Minister Samuda says given the advances in modern education, teachers need the additional training to be effective in the management position of principal.
Minister Samuda says the training college will remain a staple of the education system.
