Prime minister asks JDF Coast Guard to assist with probe into loss of oil at Petrojam

The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard is to probe whether underground pipelines were used in the disappearance of more than 600 thousand barrels of oil, from the state-owned oil refinery, Petrojam.

Prime Minister, Andrew Holness says he has asked the coast guard the look into the matter, after the assertion was made to him by a concerned resident.

An Auditor General report tabled late last year, revealed that over the last five years more than 6 hundred thousand barrels of oil valued at 5.2 billion dollars could not be accounted for.

A forensic audit is being undertaken to determine why there is a high loss of oil.

The Prime Minister says transparency is necessary in lifting the stigma of corruption which haunts Petrojam.

Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, was speaking at the JLP Area Council 1 meeting in Kingston yesterday (February 10).
