PM Holness Says Road Projects in St. Thomas, Portland Should Stimulate Development

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says several development projects are tied to the China Harbour Engineering Company, CHEC deal to construct the US multi-million dollar South Coast Highway Improvement Project.

Prime Minister Holness says the government is not merely building a major road to connect areas in Eastern Jamaica.

He says development projects in St. Thomas, Portland and surrounding areas must take place simultaneously.

The Prime Minister was addressing the groundbreaking ceremony in St. Thomas for the South Coast Highway Improvement Project.

The project will see the rehabilitation of approximately 110 kilometres of road between Harbour View in St. Andrew and Port Antonio in Portland.

26-kilometres of road from Morant Bay to Cedar Valley in St. Thomas will also be upgraded.

The construction of the May Pen to Williamsfield segment of Highway 2000 will also take place under the project.
