Opposition says Auditor General’s report on Petrojam is scandalous

by Donique Weston

Opposition Spokesman on Industry and Investment, Peter Bunting, has joined the call for disciplinary action to be taken against persons implicated in breaches outlined by the Auditor General’s report on Petrojam.

In an interview on Irie FM’s ‘Stepping Razor’ this afternoon (December 6), Mr. Bunting said the findings of the report were scandalous.

The Opposition Spokesman noted that months ago, he highlighted several of the issues at Petrojam and was rebuffed by the then Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Andrew Wheatley.

Meantime, the People’s National Party has called for a forensic audit to be conducted at Petrojam following the report of the Auditor General into operations at the state owned entity.

In a statement yesterday, the PNP said the matter should be immediately referred to the commissioner of police to begin criminal investigations into what appears to be questionable transactions, including the donation of funds, payments to consultants and direct contracting of suppliers.

With regards to issues which occurred at Petrojam under the last PNP administration, the party says it is committed to accountability and transparency and welcomes a more detailed probe to determine who should be held accountable for the losses at the entity.
