Opposition dissatisfied with the purchase of pre-owned vehicles for JCF

by Stephanie Hamilton

Opposition Member of Parliament, Peter Bunting has described the move to purchase pre-owned vehicles for the Jamaica Constabulary Force as flawed and corrupt.

Mr. Bunting says the policy to import used vehicles was ill-conceived and not supported by any proper analysis.

He adds that the whole concept for the purchase was flawed.

Mr. Bunting says to allow key specifications of the tender, to be varied after the award of the contract, makes a mockery of the whole procurement exercise.

He adds that several specs of the tender have not been followed.

He was speaking in Parliament yesterday afternoon (Dec 5), after National Security Minister Robert Montague made a statement to parliament on the saga surrounding the acquisition of used motor vehicles for the police.

Police have received only 30 of 200 vehicles and the minister could not indicate to parliament, when the 66 pre-owned vehicles on the wharf would be cleared.

The vehicles, have been sitting on the wharf since May of this year.
