Acting Education Minister, Karl Samuda, says the lecturer at the centre of a sexual harassment scandal that rocked the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, is to be terminated.
The institution has struggled to address the sexual harassment scandal which came to public attention earlier this year and led to the accused male lecturer and the Principal being sent on leave.
Minister Samuda also sought to outline charges against the fine arts institution’s Principal, Dr. Nicholeen DeGrasse-Johnson.
He was addressing the House of Representatives yesterday.
He says the disciplinary process has cost the institution some 2-point- 4 million dollars.
He says the Edna Manley College has implemented several initiatives to guard against sexual and other forms of abuse.
In the meantime, Opposition Spokesman on Education, Peter Bunting, took the Minister to task, regarding the appointment of a new board at the institution.
According to Mr Bunting, one of the persons appointed as a member of the Edna Manley College’s board of directors is also facing allegations of sexual harassment.
This was Mr Samuda’s response.

But, Mr Bunting also raised concerns about the disciplinary actions being pursued against the Edna Manley College’s Principal.
Both Mr. Samuda and Mr. Bunting engaged in a heated verbal clash, which resulted in the Opposition MPs walking out of Parliament.
