In light of two of its buses catching fire just days apart, Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, Cecil Thoms, is insisting that their buses are safe.
The administration of the State-run bus company is to meet tomorrow to discuss the way forward following the two incidents which occurred in the Corproate Area.
But, up to today, the JUTC remains uncertain as to the cause of the fire in both incidents.
Neika Lewis reports.
On Friday, a Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, bus caught fire in the vicinity of Bull Bay, St Andrew.
Four days later, another JUTC bus plying the downtown, Kingston to Half Way Tree route was seen in flames in the Half Way Tree area, metres away from the Transportation Centre.
Cecil Thoms is the Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC.
He says it’s certain the fire didn’t start in the bus’ engine.
However, he says it’s not immediately clear what caused the fire and that the company would be conducting a thorough investigation into the incidents.
Mr. Thoms says the losses are in the millions.
And, while he says he’s yet to get a report as to what caused the fire on the bus in Bull Bay, the JUTC’s Corporate Communications Manager sought to allay fears arising from the incidents.
He also says the management of the JUTC is scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss how they’ll treat with the incidents
No one was injured during the bus fires.
