JTA Questions Delayed Pension Payouts to Retired Teachers

Jamaica Teacher’s Association President, Owen Speid says he’s becoming increasingly concerned about teachers retiring for more than a year without receiving their pension.

He says there are teachers who’ve died without receiving any money.

Mr. Speid says the JTA wants teachers to start getting payment a month after going on retirement.

The JTA president says the government is giving scant regard to the welfare of retired teachers.

He was was addressing a JTA half-yearly meeting at the St John’s Methodist Church in St James last Friday.
