National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang says the revised National Identification System, NIDS will enhance Jamaica’s cyber security capabilities.

He says the new identification system will be accessible globally and protect Jamaicans against all forms of cyber security threats that are emerging with advanced technology.

Earlier this year the Constitutional Court ruled that aspects of the then NIDS Bill was in violation of the constitution and hence null and void.

However, speaking this morning (December 03,) at the opening session for the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Workshop in Latin America and the Caribbean held in Montego Bay, Dr. Chang said the revised NIDS bill will provide greater protection for all Jamaicans.

He said passports and other forms of ID are becoming obsolete and are prone to facilitating identity theft.
