Former William Knibb High school girl Fellan Ferguson has won the Pettis Norman Award as the 2015-2016 Athlete of the Year at the Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It comes after a spectacular season in which she broke nine school records.

Ferguson, who also attended St. Hugh’s High in Kingston, this past winter earned NCAA Indoor All-American honours in the 800m and 4×400 relays and was named the Atlantic Region Indoor Runner of the Year.

The Deeside, Trelawny native also won the Most Valuable Performer in women’s cross country and two weeks ago captured gold in the 800 and 1500 meter events at the Central Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Championship where she helped the Johnson C. Smith women team to the CIAA Championship.

Her efforts saw her named the CIAA Outdoor Track Most Valuable Performer.

This season, she has posted NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 400m and as a member of the 4x400m relay team.

She also has returned an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:07.47 in the 800m, which ranks as the third-fastest mark in the nation to date.
