Former Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher, has withdrawn his lawsuit against the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, ECJ.
That’s according to Mr. Fisher’s attorney, Hugh Wildman.
Speaking with our news Centre today, Mr. Wildman says Mr. Fisher withdrew his suit because he has resigned from the post of Director of Elections.
Mr. Fisher had filed the lawsuit to prevent his dismissal. He was seeking a judicial review of the decision of the ECJ not to renew his seven-year contract which expired in 2015.
At that time, he was working on one-year contracts. His attorney argued that the contracts were in breach of the law.
The judge was set to hand down a ruling. But according to Mr. Fisher’s attorney, that’s no longer relevant since his client has resigned. It was reported that Mr. Fisher, in his resignation letter, said there was growing political interference at the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
