Fire damages old farmers market in Discovery Bay

by Patrice Walters

Fire of unknown origin damaged sections of the old farmers market in Discovery Bay, St. Ann this morning (October 24).

The fire, which started around 10 o’clock, also damaged some old abandoned shops.

The old market is the property of the St. Ann Parish Council.

JLP Caretaker for the Dry Harbor Division, Carlton Ricketts, who visited area this morning, says fire-fighters from the Brown’s Town station, as well as a unit from Noranda Bauxite, responded and conducted cooling down operations.

Mr. Ricketts says while smoke was seen coming from another building adjoining the old market, its not clear how badly the fire affected it.
