Residents of the crime-torn parish of St. James are to see increased police and military presence in some communities in the coming days.

That’s according to Head of Operations in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Clifford Blake.

Residents of several communities in St. James, including Retrieve, Cambridge, Glendevon, Retirement and other areas of the parish’s capital city, Montego Bay, are being held under siege by violent gun-toting gangsters.

The St. James Police have also complained of being shot at by gangsters while conducting operations in some of these communities.

DCP Blake says many police stations in rural St. James are not equipped nor do they have enough manpower to tackle the organized criminal gangs causing terror across sections of the parish.

The parish has recorded over 300 murders since the start of the year.
