Following Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico is without power and its governor, Ricardo Rossello, declared a curfew from 6pm to 6am every night, from Wednesday to Saturday.

Maria was downgraded from category 4 to category 2 after it passed over Puerto Rico, but the National Hurricane Service warned it could strengthen to a “major hurricane” again.

Rossello said he has asked Donald Trump to declare the US territory a disaster zone. The White House later said it “continues to direct all necessary Federal resources to protect the people of the United States territories affected by Hurricane Maria”.

The British Virgin Islands were one of several islands to be damaged by Maria before it hit Puerto Rico. British troops have been helping with preparations for the storm with the main concern on the British Virgin Islands being flooding.
